Dear Mitch Kupchak,

I just sent in my order for the NBA League Pass. This is my fifth year doing so, and I can honestly say it is worth every cent! I live on the east coast, so the NBA LP is the most effective way for me to keep up with my beloved Lakers.

Unfortunately, the boys in Purple and Gold could not pull through last season. Their year consisted of ups and downs – at times they looked like locks to win the west, but  also experienced 4 or 5 game losing streaks that made every Laker fan cringe. Dallas had the best team in 2011, I get it. But this year is a new year, and Laker nation expects more.

Lets face it: Kobe ain’t no springs chicken. He’s 34. He’s had multiple knee operations. His fingers are swollen and bent to the point of no return. Although he can still give you 25, 5, and 5, he is no longer able to put the team on his back for weeks at a time. That Kobe is gone. The new Kobe must preserve his energy for crunch time, score when he needs to, and continue to mentor his teammates. This is why it is urgent, Mr. Kupchak, that you sign a big name free agent… soon.

Dwight Howard and Chris Paul are on the trading blocks. Here is my idea: give Orlando Bynum, Odom, and your 2013 #1 draft pick for Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu’s corpse. This would give you a core of Kobe, Dwight, Gasol.

Send Gasol, Steve Blake, and Derrick Caracter to New Orleans for Chris Paul. If the Hornets would do this deal (maybe they want Odom?) then the Lakers would have a nucleus of Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum, and Lamar Odom.

Not bad.

Either way, the Lakers current roster cannot compete with the likes of Dallas, Miami, Oklahoma City, and Chicago. Can you imagine Kobe playing on the third night of a back to back to back on the road? Derek Fisher and Metta World Peace are not starter quality NBA players as it is.

Laker Nation demands change. Mike Brown was a good start. Let’s bring some talent to Hollywood.

Love, Graysportsguy
