With the third pick in the NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders select Terrelle Pryor, Quarterback, Ohio State University.
Or something like that.
Al Davis has struck again! The Oakland Raiders forfeited a third round pick in the 2012 NFL draft for the right to Pryor’s services via the Supplemental Draft.
It seems like at this point everyone has an opinion on Pryor. He’s not a Quarterback. He’s hasn’t played in a pro style offense. He has character issues. Ho hum. To me, it’s simple. Pryor is 6’6, 235 pounds. He runs a 4.36 forty yard dash. He completed 65% of his passes during his final season with Ohio State against Big Ten defenses. He tossed 27 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 754 yards at a 5.6 per carry clip. If he isn’t Cam Newton, he’s the next best thing.
I think Pryor has all the right tools, both physical and mental, to succeed in the NFL. He comes into an offense with a bit of a tutor (Jason Campbell?), a solid running game (Darren McFadden and Michael Bush), and high expectations (Campbell is only under contract thru 2012).
He needs to avoid Jamarcus Russell syndrome.
And that is no small task in Oakland. Stay tuned.
